Come dance on the ‘wild side’ at the 74th NSDC’s pre-convention kick-off March 15-16

Gumbo, Po-Boys and Cajun cuisine, Mardi Gras, the Gardens of the American Rose Center, massive rhododendrons, the oldest trees in the United States outside of the Redwoods of California, ancient swamps and gentle flowing rivers, these are just a few things that are uniquely Louisiana, which happens to also be the home of Ma and Pa ‘Gator, the official mascots of the 74th  National Square Dance Convention® to be held in Shreveport, La., on June 25-28, 2025. They invite you to come “Dance on the Wild Side” and get a preview of their great state and the convention facilities at the Pre-Convention Kick-Off Celebration Dance on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the beautiful Shreveport Convention Center. Everyone who has pre-registered for the 74th NSDC in 2025 can come and dance for free on Saturday night.

Remember that March 16 is the last date to get the special NSDC rate of $55 per adult and registration will be available at the special pre-convention dance. On March 17 the rate goes up $15 per person. Registration for the 74th NSDC is available online at www.74thnsdc.com, according to Grand Chairman Ted and Tonia Hofmeister, who also welcome you to the pre-convention weekend.

Anyone who is registered and interested in volunteering at the 74th NSDC can attend the additional pre-convention activities, which includes a virtual city tour and multiple workshops to be held across the weekend on March 15-16 at the Shreveport Convention Center, located at 400 Caddo Street. Contact Rhonda Bailey, the 74th NSDC Registration and Housing Committee Chairman at rhondaw252@outlook.com, or Cheryl Rush, the 74th NSDC Registration and Housing Committee Assistant Chairman and Webmistress at peppercatt2@gmail.com, for information on how to volunteer and the pre-convention workshops.

The weekend’s “wild side” activities will conclude with the 74th NSDC’s Pre-Convention Square and Round Dance Kick-Off Celebration on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in Exhibit Hall 1 at the Shreveport Convention Center. You don’t want to miss this lively dance featuring Larry Marchese from Colorado, Joey Duhamel from Louisiana, Tim Tyl from Texas, and Phil Moorehouse from Arkansas calling squares and Martin Philyaw and Ken Vantiger, both hailing from Louisiana, cueing rounds. The dance kicks off with pre-rounds at 6:30 p.m. followed by an additional three great hours of dancing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be representatives from Milwaukee and Waco also accepting registrations for their upcoming National Conventions, as well as our own 74th NSDC in Shreveport. Remember, this dance is free to those who have already registered for the 74th NSDC and registration will also be available at the door.

If you really want to give your dancing shoes a workout, take advantage of “two great events happening across one great weekend.” The Louisiana Square Dance Convention starts the Thursday night before our pre-convention with dances on Thursday night, March 14, all day Friday, March 15, and Saturday afternoon, March 16.
